11-21-10 Velociraptor finished! Dimetrodon well underway…
Just a few things to mention here since last time.
First off- the 1/12th scale Velociraptor posable kit is finished and ready to ship. Big thanks to Jeremy Monz for an excellent job on the molding and casting of this kit. The measures 6″ long and is $45 per kit plus $5 for shipping. Since it is smaller, I can ship up to three of these kits for only $5. I have posted a full gallery of the completed kit here.

Painted kit pics will be added soon.
So that brings us to the current project- the first non-dinosaur animal sculpt so far- Dimetrodon. Before beginning the sculpt, I went to the Natural History Museum in NY to do some sketch studies of the creature’s bones. I’ve posted those here along with a bonus Brontops skeleton.
And now for the Dimetrodon sculpt. I initially wanted it to be 1/16th scale, which would have made it around 8 or 9 inches. But, it just seemed too small. I feel this one has never truly been given it’s due. It needs to be powerful and have a strong presence. I can’t make it too big for time and cost sake, but I can double the size, so that’s what I did. Granted 1/8th scale isn’t the most popular scale for prehistoric models, but you gotta go with what feels right and after working on this for a few weeks now, I know I made the right choice.
So here it is so far- in-progress 1/8th scale Dimetrodon. 15″ long- 18.5 ” total body length.

See the full album here.
I plan to have this completed by the end of the year, however you may have to wait until January to purchase the kit, which will feature a clear resin back fin- should look cool.
And one last thing- check out the Shop page for the updated 2011 resin kit schedule as well as reduced prices on all resin kits (with the exception of the newly listed Velociraptor.)
Now to crank out another Christmas card… while I’m sculpting… oh boy.
Oh and if you’re not following me on Facebook by now, well what are you waiting for?
9-20-10 An alien dog, some fish, and of course, dinosaurs… but nothing unusual.
Plenty to mention in this update… where to start…
First up, I’ve posted final sculpt pics of the upcoming Predator Hound action figure from NECAs ‘Predators’ line (based on the recent summer movie). You can check out the full gallery here.
Painted versions of this were on display at SDCC a few months back. The figure is loaded with articulation and was a blast to sculpt.
Next, the Animal Sketches gallery has been updated with some new sketches from a recent outing to the NY Aquarium. Among these of course, my personal favorite fish…SHARKS!
Been doing more animal life drawing lately so I expect this section to be updated fairly frequently.
And now for…. DINOSAURS! Following up on the completion of the Acrocanthosaurus sculpt- I have painted up my own and a gallery for that can be seen here.
I really like how this one turned out- and yes, it is a coincidence that it looks almost just like my Acrocanthosaurus posable figure concept. Oh well, if it works it works.
Speaking of the posable dinosaur kits, the first one is well underway (though a bit behind schedule.) I’ve posted in-progress pics of the velociraptor posable kit here.

The kit will be in 1/12th scale- so you can display it with your 6″ action figures! It is nearing completion now and the kit should be available sometime next month (October).
And lastly, this brings us to the new ad for the upcoming issue of Prehistoric Times (#95). Keep an eye out for it.
And as usual- look me up on Facebook for updates and such (if you haven’t already).
That’ll do it for now.
8-1-10 Slacking….
So I’ve FINALLY gotten around to updating the site. Been kind of spoiled by having a page on Facebook- it’s easier to just post updates there (and I suspect it gets more attention then my site.) If anyone reading this isn’t following Creative Beast Studios on Facebook yet- what are you waiting for?!
Anyway, many updates to mention. Most notable is the addition of the Jabba the Hutt figure I sculpted for Hasbro (over a year ago.)
It was finally unveiled at SDCC recently and is apparently already hitting Wal-Marts on the West coast. Check out the full sculpt gallery here.
Also, I have added new concept art for the upcoming Dragons vs. Raptors sculpture project here.
This is not officially on the schedule since it’s hard to know how long it will take- but I will make the piece available as a kit once finished. This will not interfere with the official schedule posted in the Shop section. Speaking of which…
The ‘Shop‘ has been updated as well. The Acrocanthosaurus is in hand and available now. Check out Martin Garratt’s beautiful build-up of this kit here. I’ll post my own build-up in due time, but it will likely fail in comparison.
And also of note- Sean Kotz of Model Building Examiner posted an interview of me recently. Check it out here. Big thanks to Sean for the free publicity and I’d like to encourage anyone who’s into model kits to subscribe to the site and you can also follow his work on Facebook here.
And here’s a peek at what I have in the works now (in addition to the velociraptor kit).
If you want to see more, check out the Facebook page.( yeah, I mentioned it again)
Until next time…
5- 31-10 Acro finished! Looking ahead…
The Acrocanthosaurus sculpt is officially completed!
Check out the updated gallery here. I’m now taking pre-orders- the Shop section has been updated with a Paypal link for the Acro. The first batch of 8 will arrive in June. Any orders after that will have to wait until July. The cost is $175 which includes US shipping.
The dino kit schedule has been updated in the Shop section as well. Next up will be the velociraptor posable action figure kit which I plan to be selling in August.
In addition to this, I will begin my first fantasy sculpture project. I’ll be posting some design drawings within the month. It will be a dragon. MY dragon.
Stay tuned…
4-4-10 Happy Easter!
Just a few updates to make note of …Acrocanthosaurus is coming long well and should be finished sometime next month- kits being available in June. I have updated the in-progress gallery here. And here is a more current pic of the beast with teeth.
[SinglePic not found]Also, I have received new pictures of Martin Garratt’s build-up of my latest kit, Saichania. He did a beautiful job as always. Check out this and the rest of his work here.
And before I go- I have a new Facebook page for Creative-Beast Studios. Check it out:
3-14-10 It’s March already?!
Yeah I’ve been avoiding the updates this year- alot going on, but I won’t elaborate on excuses…
Anyway, the Saichania sculpt is finished and the resin model kit is now available in the Shop section. I have also set up new galleries for the completed Saichania sculpt as well as the final painted version.
It’s all in the Sculptures section. Look for a review of the new kit in the upcoming issue of Prehistoric Times magazine (issue#93). And check out the review of my Styracosaurus kit in the current issue.
Also, be sure to take a look at the amazing build-ups of my dinosaur kits by master kit builder Martin Garratt. He’s been kind enough to send me plenty of images of two of my Dilophosaurus kits as well as a Styracosaurus kit to share here on my site. See the new gallery in the Dinosaurs! section or just click here.
The latter two were for a commission build-up to be displayed in a traveling dinosaur exhibition which will be touring around the U.K. for 3 years, starting in October, 2010. You can check out the website here: http://www.dinosaurroadshow.co.uk
I’ll be adding Martin’s Saichania build-up as soon as the pics are available.
Now it’s time to crank on that Acrocanthosaurus!
Until next time.
12-27-09 Farewell 2009- going out with bang!
A couple of updates to speak of just before the year’s end.
First up are three new ‘Animal Warriors’ (not an official title, but to the point) in the Personal Concept Art section. Elephant, Octopus and Seahorse concepts have all been added.
And I FINALLY got around to painting the Styracosaurus resin kit (molded and casted beautifully by Mike Evans at Alchemy Works- thanks Mike!) You can check out the full gallery in the Sculptures section here.
This kit is available for sale in the Shop section for $125.00- (shipping included within the US).
Until next time- Happy 2010! May it be our best year yet!
12-21-09 Christmas and creatures!
A new gallery has been added for the Styracosaurus resin kit (available for sale in the Shop). You can check out the new gallery here. More pics will be added once the kit is painted.
Three new dragons have been added to the More Dragons! gallery. See if you can find them.
And for those of you who are into the Christmas spirit this time of year, I give you the first annual Creative-Beast.com Christmas card:
Happy holidays everyone!
11-30-09 More Dinosaurs … and some other stuff
Three new Dinosaur action figure concepts now are up: Acrocanthosaurus, Diplodocus, and Saichania:
Also in the Dinosaurs! section, a new drawing of Therizinosaurus:
For the Personal Concept Art section, I’ve added this guy:
No, it’s not a duck…
And lastly, for those few who bother to check this section of the website, here’s a bonus gallery I put up on my webshots album- a mysterious ‘Untitled’ sculpture I did a while back. Creepy.
Enjoy!
11-12-09 Styracosaurus sculpt finished!
The Styracosaurus sculpt gallery has been updated with new pics of the finished sculpt. Check it out here. This will become the next resin model kit and should be available in December.
Please email me if you want to pre-order. This one will be about 1/24th scale or about 9″ long. The base is made up of three parts- rock foundation, water layer, and splash. The water layer and splash will be clear resin allowing the rocks underneath to show through. The Styracosaurus kit will be selling for $125 which includes priority shipping within the US. I hope to have some painted pics of the kit up by early next month. Next will be the Saichania- which will have a surprise bonus not shown thus far- stay tuned…
11-3-09 New Zoids girl – Geno Breaker Hybrid
Just added my latest Zoids piece- Geno Breaker Girl- in the tradition of the Zoids hybrids (better known in Japan.)
Just a little side project I’ve been working on when I’m not sculpting. I have another in the works…
10-23-09 Zodiac Leo gallery added
Just added a new gallery for the McFarlane Toys’ Warriors of the Zodiac Leo figure in the 3-D Professional Work section.
This was supposed to be released in the Fall of 2008 for Zodiac series 2, but the line got canned before that happened. Still, many on-line stores put the items up for pre-order so it’s not hard to find pictures of the figures on the web. Too bad I’ll never be able to show the Pisces figure I worked on for series 3….even I don’t have pictures of that!
10-22-09 -Styracosaurus updated!
I have added current pictures of the styracosaurus sculpt in the Sculpture section. I plan to have this one finished by Nov. 10th. We’ll see how that goes!
Also, the new issue of Prehistoric Times magazine is out now! Check it out here.
Until next time…
10-9-09 -Welcome to Creative-Beast.com!
So I finally have a real website. The webshots album will continue to run as well, as I plan to update that along with this site, but you can still find some varied content on either. Most of the work will be the same however.
My first dinosaur kit is now available- the 1/16th scale Dilophosaurus Wetherilli resin model kit. Mike Evans at The Alchemy Works took care of the molding and casting duties- and did a fantastic job. Dilophosaurus is 16″ long and (for you toy collectors out there) it’s in scale with your 6″ action figures! The price is $165.00 which includes US shipping, international shipments will be discounted according to region. More kits are on the way so keep checking the Shop and Sculptures sections for updates. And check out the upcoming issue of Prehistoric Times magazine for a full review of the kit as well as my full page ad:
Big thanks to Jesse Yu for helping with the graphic design on that.
I’ve listed my projected dino kit schedule for the next 14 months on the Shop page- hopefully I can follow through. The styracosaurus is coming along well and is further along at this point than the progress pics show. It’s going to be a good bit smaller than the dilophosaurus (about 8″ long), but the base will be more intricate.
On the toy side of things, I’ve recently added some Hasbro stuff that was unveiled at this year’s San Deigo Comic Con to the 3-D Professional Work gallery. Star Wars Dewback, and Spiderman villian, Rhino have been added as well as Star Wars podracer Clegg Holdfast (which is in stores now- if you can find him). More of my Hasbro work will be added as the figures are publicly unveiled. There’s some big stuff coming up that I can’t wait to add.
That’s all for now.
