Here’s an early look at the Beasts of the Mesozoic Glow-in-the-Dark Zuniceratops in it’s vintage-style packaging. This was a lot of fun to work on- I’m hoping to do more of these in the future!

That specific toy resonates in our minds because he was the first to be called an action figure. In following a history of the action figures, you’ll learn a lot of interesting information about these models. You’ll also find that they haven’t been around, at least by this defined name, for much time at all….

Kicking off our look at the recent Beasts of the Mesozoic: Ceratopsian Series wave 2 paint samples, here is the ‘The Boss’, Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai!

Still catching up on my photo taking, but for now here’s a photo of the finished juvenile T-Rex prototype along side a few ‘friends’. (Note: the posing rod is temporary- a new solution is being worked on right now.) More photos to come soon!

Refinements to the Beasts of the Mesozoic ‘Body 5’ figures for wave 3 are completed! Here are some shots from the factory, mostly showing off the Torosaurus. All of the detail has been sharpened and is now ready for tooling!

The Zuniceratops was a relative to and resembled the more known horned Ceratopsidae dinosaurs, such as the Triceratops. Based on the findings of these beast’s fossils, they lived in the region now known as New Mexico, USA. Sculpting for the Beasts of the Mesozoic Yutyrannus action figure is now in-progress, and it’s been quite a collaborative effort for this one. The understructure (face, teeth, and musculature) was sculpted digitally by Jake Baardse. It was then articulated and printed by Raul Ramos, and now I’m sculpting all of the feather details by hand…

A new Beasts of the Mesozoic: Ceratopsian Series Kickstarter update is in the works now with all the latest on wave 2 and wave 3. But in the meantime, here are some shots of the wave 2 paint samples along with their package proofs that I recently received. Look for a new Kickstarter update next…

The production paint samples for the Beasts of the Mesozoic: Ceratopsian Series, wave 2 are in and are looking great. We’ll be taking a closer look at all of these horned beasties in the weeks to come!
